Recently in Social Studies class we have been covering the Amendments to the Constitution and discussing every American citizens most basic rights. It was nice to hear about the eighth graders putting their knowledge to work. Yesterday, while in Language Arts the students were finishing out their unit on mysteries (working on using deductive reasoning) and they were looking at the murder case involving Lizzie Borden. The comment was made that they needed to try Lizzie again for the murder of her parents, but the students immediately commented that you couldn't do that! A person cannot be tried for the same crime twice according to the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. I thought it was very exciting to see the students using what they learned in my class and putting it into action in another! GREAT JOB 8th GRADE!
